KaHuna - The Breath of Life
KaHuna bodywork is an ancient Hawaiian art of physical and spiritual rejuvenation often used during rites of passage as a transformational massage and healing system. It is also known as Hawaiian Temple Style massage and Lomi Lomi.
This unique form of massage treats the whole system by stabilising ones physical, emotional and spiritual dimensions. The practitioner uses hands, forearms and elbows on the body as they dance around the table using flowing Hula movements and dynamic breathing. Soft and deep tissue massage techniques are applied rhythmically to the body and are used to help stretch muscles, equalise postural imbalances, improve mobility and reduce pain, helping you to let go of stale, stagnant energy, making room for fresh energy and love.
KaHuna suits people seeking a deeper embodied massage. This powerful form of bodywork can assist with relaxation, it allows blood to flow more freely, it aids in the release of deep-seated neuromuscular tension, it helps treat lymphatic, circulatory, immune and digestive systems and can help to release emotions and/or trauma which brings a clarity and self awareness to the fore.
The 7 principles of ancient Huna philosophy:
IKE – The world is what you think it is “I am aware”
KALA – There are no limits; we are all one “I am free”
MAKIA – Energy flows where attention goes “I am focused”
MANAWA – Now is the moment of power “I am here now”
ALOHA – To love is to be happy “I am happy”
MANA – All power comes from within “I am confident”
PONO – Effectiveness is the measure of truth “I am positive”
Traditionally KaHuna is a nude-style massage, using sarongs and towels to respectfully cover you, keeping your modesty in check. The long flowing side body strokes can be hindered by clothing but it is up to each individual to decide if they feel comfortable being massaged nude and if underwear is desired the practitioner naturally can work around this. KaHuna uses a liberal amount of oil so if underwear is your vibe please don’t wear your fav’s. Please remember KaHuna massage is always practiced in a beautiful, nurturing and safe environment and it is important for you to feel held and supported in whichever way you need. Please voice any concerns to your practitioner.
It is important to drink lots of water in the days following a massage as this assists in the detoxification process. KaHuna body work is a powerful form of healing that affects people differently. In the days following a massage you may experience a range of emotions. There is no need to worry, simply observe your emotions without getting caught up in them and let them flow.
